Frequently Asked Questions
For First-Time Students: Enrollment
-
Is Musashisakai Driving School a designated driving school?
Yes. We are a designated driving school authorized by the Public Safety Commission. You can take the provisional license written and driving skill tests, as well as the final driving skill test, at our school. There are two types of driving schools in Japan: designated driving schools and registered driving schools. Designated driving schools meet strict Public Safety Commission standards. After graduating, students can obtain their license by taking only the written test at a driver's license center. Registered driving schools allow students to practice driving, but the driving skill test must be taken at a driver's license center. As a designated driving school, we provide an efficient and reassuring environment for students working toward their license.
-
How long does it take to get a driver's license?
We are currently busier than usual. Theory lessons can begin right away, but practical driving lessons are expected to start about 1 to 1.5 months later. After lessons begin, the time needed depends on how often you attend, which plan you choose, and whether you need additional lessons or make cancellations. As a general guide, many students graduate within 1 to 3 months after starting practical lessons. The training period is 9 months, and most students graduate within that period. I'm busy. Will I still be able to attend lessons regularly?
We offer plans that allow us to create a schedule based on your availability, and you can take lessons on days that work for you. It is also fine if you cannot attend for a period of time, such as one month. Please keep the 9-month training period in mind. We also offer 24/7 on-demand online theory lessons, making the program easier for busy students.
-
Can I take all theory lessons online? Are there any extra fees?

I'm older than most students. Can I still get a license?
Yes, absolutely. Musashisakai Driving School has many adult students. We also offer the IT-VIP Plan for students who want extra support outside the lessons themselves. This flat-rate plan includes services such as instructor requests, access to a dedicated VIP room, and full reservation schedule management, helping you proceed with confidence.
-
I'm worried because driving school instructors seem intimidating. What are your instructors like?
Many students have that impression before starting. However, we often hear from students that our instructors are very kind. If you enroll at Musashisakai Driving School, we do not think you need to worry. Please feel free to visit and experience the atmosphere for yourself.
-
My registered address is not in Tokyo. Is that okay?
Yes. You can take lessons even if your registered address is outside Tokyo. After graduation, you will take the written test at the driver's license center in the prefecture where your address is registered.
-
I'm not sure whether to choose an AT-only or MT regular car license.
This is a common question. AT cars are easier to operate, and most cars on the road today are AT, so more students choose an AT-only license each year. The advantage of an MT license is that you can drive both AT and MT cars. If you do not plan to drive an MT car in the future, we generally recommend an AT-only license. Of course, we fully support students who want to get an MT license.
-
I'm nervous about my first lesson.
That is completely normal. Before starting driving school, many people worry about whether the instructors will be strict or whether they will be able to drive well. At Musashisakai Driving School, we aim to make lessons enjoyable, reassuring, kind, and easy to understand. It is okay to make mistakes during practice. Try to relax and enjoy the experience.
-
Can I borrow a helmet and protective gear for motorcycle lessons?
Yes. Helmets and protective gear are available to borrow. Helmets can be borrowed free of charge, and disposable helmet liners are used for hygiene. If you bring your own helmet, please use a full-face or jet helmet that meets the required standards.
-
Can I pay tuition fees by loan or credit card?
Yes. You can apply for a loan or pay by credit card directly at reception. We can suggest a payment plan based on your preferred number of installments and monthly payment amount.
